Cline (1918-1998) is a renowned Washington State studio artist. By the time she was 27, Blanche P. Cline had been a order schoolteacher and commander of 400 Women's Army Corps (WAC) troops in the South Pacific during World War II. She even reached the rank of major. In her early 30s she had a master's degree in guidance counseling, and was counseling students at the University of Washington. She was also a counselor at Sealth and Franklin high schools in Seattle. And after she retired at 52, she established herself as an art potter. She turned the living room of the Mercer Island cottage where she'd lived for nearly 50 years into a sales showroom for her fired-clay plates and bowls. Her line of bird feeders was featured in Sunset magazine.
