A stunning art deco necklace from the 1920s or early 1930s.
A stunning art deco necklace from the 1920s or early 1930s, in the wonderful Egyptian Revival style of that era. In this beautiful example, the intense swirly orangey-red glass beads are in a wide organic shape evoking coral pieces. Tutankhamun's tomb was unearthed in 1922, and in 1929 a massive Cairo exhibition further popularised the Egyptian Revival look, which continued till WW2.
The necklace is a flapper length 46 inches circumference, which can wrap around the neck once or twice, or be knotted lariat style. The beads are large and heavy, strung on pale orange woven cord, with each one separated by a knot. There is no fastening, it simply slips over the head.
A versatile and unique piece, with a story to tell, that can brighten up any outfit, and is sure to invite admiring comments.
CONDITION: Very good condition. The beads are all present and intact. There is a small knot where the ends are joined, this is how it was made. Please see photos for details.
