Jan Kalwin, fr. Jean Cauvin or also Jean Calvin (born July 10, 1509 in Noyon, died May 27, 1564 in Geneva) - French Protestant theologian, reformer, preacher, writer and organizer of spiritual life in Switzerland during the Reformation. The creator of one of the religious doctrines - Reformed Evangelicalism, adopted by the Evangelical Reformed, Presbyterian, and then by some congregational Churches, based mainly on the teaching of predestination and the teaching of the real and spiritual presence of Jesus Christ at the Lord's Supper, in contrast to the generally prevailing view in the Catholic Church (real and carnal presence). Called by his followers "the theologian par excellence"; "Aristotle of the Reformation"; "Aquinas of the Reformed Church"; "The most Christian man of his age" or "the second Patriarch of the Reformation."
Calvin began reorganizing the church structures, giving rise to a Presbyterian church system. Calvin's most important work is Institutio religionis christianae.
