Gourd Rattle, Rainbow Shekere, Beaded Musical Instrument, Natural Shaker, Drum order Circle, Octopus Maraca, Percussion Gift for Him, Gay Pride

This rattle was made from a natural hard shell gourd. The design on the handle was created with a wood burner, then the rest of the gourd was painted a rich chocolate brown. This design reminds me of an octopus. The entire shell of the gourd is protected with several coats of wax.

The netting is made from hemp cord and hundreds of beads strung and knotted one at a time. It takes hours to complete this process. I used a rainbow of colors on this one, it's an energetic contrast to the neutral gourd.

Measurements: 10" tall by 5" wide at the widest point.

This gourd has a secondary sound when played from a large mass of seeds inside.

This rattle is nice and portable (good for taking to drum circles etc.), and it order also makes a fun display piece. Shake it like a maraca, tap it like a tambourine, or put it on your coffee table to start conversations. There is a little play in the netting. You can adjust the way the rattle sounds by twisting the strings on the bottom at the knot. The more you twist, the more you can mute the sound.
