Early 20th Century African Tribal Stool - Carved from a Single Block of Wood - Applied Design of Hundreds of Tiny Glass Beads
This is an early 20th.c. African tribal stool of unusual form and decoration seemingly carved from a single block of wood. It has a dished seat with an applied design made of hundreds of tiny glass beads of four colours hammered into the end grain of the timber whilst it was still soft. It order stands on four heavy set legs, slightly flared at the foot. There is a split in the wood which has deepened over the years. Most of the glass beads are still present. It is in very good condition considering its age. Appropriate for display.
Dimensions: diameter 9", height 8.25".
