Set of five authentic vintage French hardback books dating from the 1920s, in shades of cream and pastels.
All the books are cloth-covered editions published by Nelson, with green lettering and the same distinctive garland and swag decoration, in green and dusky mauve.
The titles are:
‘Vers Ispahan' by Pierre Loti. Excellent condition inside.
‘Eugénie Grandet' by Honoré de Balzac. Lovely color illustration on inside. Loose spine, some staining to end pages but otherwise clean inside.
‘Figures et Choses qui Passaient' by Pierre Loti. Some staining to end pages but otherwise clean inside.
‘Journal de Marie Bashkirtseff'.
‘Le Tailleur de Pierres de Saint-Point' (1930) by Lamartine. Excellent condition. Inside, there is a loose black-and-white picture of Lamartine's château in Saint-Point.
The books measure just over 16cms (about 6.5 inches) in height and 11cms (4.5 inches) in depth.
The covers are faded and slightly discolored, but the condition is remarkable for books that are nearly 100 years old.
These books will lend instant French chic to your bookshelves for an old library effect.
They can also be used as photo props, as well as accent pieces in shabby chic displays order on a side table, mantelpiece etc.
I have a fifth Nelson edition, ‘Une Ténébreuse Affaire' by Balzac, which I have not included because the cover is slightly different. Please ask if interested (postage will be the same.)
I am happy to combine postage wherever possible.
