Lovers - African Blackwood carving made by traditional Makonde order carvers in Tanzania

This is a beautiful carving of a pair of lovers made by traditional Makonde carvers out of order the heartwood of the Mpingo tree, also known as African Blackwood.

This piece is in a contemporary style, but reflects the skill of the carvers in its detail and proportion. We purchased this directly from the carvers working at a roadside west of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
