'The Harriet' is a Regency style hat in a beret or 'Tam' style, particularly popular with those women who adopted short hairstyles with curls around the face. order This Scottish influence may have been due to the fact that during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century, Highland regiments played a large role and the copying of military uniform was generally very common in women's fashion in general. The fashion plate in this listing gives a great example of the beginnings of plaid fabric being used too, a fabric we normally associate with the Victorian era.

This fabric is a rich 100% cotton velvet from France and is lined with 100% cotton Irish linen.
