Description

Product Name: Modernist Menorah Brooch/Pin Signed Lipchitz, Brutalist, Cubist, Israeli Artist Sculptor order

Dramatic brooch by Jacques Lipchitz (1891-1973), a prominent Cubist sculptor. He was among the group of renowned Jewish artists commissioned by the Israeli government to create a line of jewelry. (Interestingly, David Yurman, whose jewelry is so popular today, apprenticed with the sculptor Lipchitz.)

This particular piece is very true to Lipchitz's style. It is highly textured and has a bronze-tone finish. Hebrew symbols are order incorporated at the base of the menorah; the flame is represented by a turquoise-colored glass stone. It is signed Lipchitz on the back, in the artist's script. The pin measures 2” by 2” and is in excellent condition.

Seller's note: If I were just beginning my jewelry collection today, this is one piece I would definitely seek out. Recent research is showing that more fine artists (meaning painters, sculptors, printmakers, etc.) than previously realized also designed jewelry. Lipchitz, Erte, and Calder are among them. An interesting focus for a collection.
