Reading Jack London was pivotal in terms of having a father who worked in an office. My old man was the first in his family to cop a tertiary education while both of my grandfathers; on my mother and father's side, laboured as farmers/mechanics. In the steadily ensuing age of late-capitalism, I found myself staring down the barrel of an office job that would only serve to further disconnect me from the living environment of the Australian continent. Upon my return from a stint overseas, after the fashion of London novels such as White Fang and The Sea Wolf, I took up an opportunity order tree cutting simply because it'd help me to pay the rent and to get me out of the writing-room. It also ensured my exposure to natural elements that were influential on my fiction. In the arboriculture industry, I encountered a multitude of oddballs, most screwier than the next. The Christian scheme is diabolical.
