Does anyone else remember your parents getting the paper hand drawn catalogs in the mail full of safari and travel scenes and clothing? (see example pics in the listing). Banana Republic was started by a couple in the late 1970's selling repurposed military order surplus clothing. They were bought out by the Gap and the rest is history. It's an interesting enough story that a couple books have been written about it!
