Hand painted silk Charmeuse scarf, Light Pink and Light Black stripes 14"x72". This scarf was dyed using a Arashi Shibori (Pole Wrapping) Technique. It is one of a kind and ready to ship.

This is the Porsche of silks! A muted crepe on the back side and shimmery lustrous satin on the top side. It is heavier and more substantial than plain Satin or Crepe De Chine, has a firm, soft, supple hand and a luxuriously heavy drape. Dyes and paints will order show an intensity of color and richness on this fiber. This fabric traditionally considered to be the best of the best, unless you get into the velvets... These have hand rolled hems with 100% silk thread.

Arashi shibori is also known as pole-wrapping shibori. The silk is wrapped diagonally around a pole, the silk is then bound very tightly by wrapping thread up and down the pole. Next, the silk is scrunched on the pole. The result is a pleated silk with a design on a diagonal. "Arashi" is the Japanese word for storm. The patterns are always on a diagonal in arashi shibori which suggest the driving rain of a heavy storm.

Made of soft silk fabric with hand rolled edges, hand painted, and designed by me Mary Jane Davidson.

The dyes are steam fixed to silk fibers for permanence making the scarf hand washable in warm water with mild shampoo or silk-wool detergent. Iron damp on reverse side using the silk setting.
