Birch order Vase

Birch vase - fluted, rising, fine top edge, light.
The standing trunk of the dead tree had dried and split as well as becoming order thoroughly inhabited by insect larvae. The dark areas towards the rim of the vase are the oxidised and weathered regions which had become exposed by the trunk splitting, also present an area of the external wood surface.
Highly decorative surface appearance and texture the result of worm activity.
Internal tapers down to a small opening making the vase suitable for dried flowers, grasses or other light ornament.
Finish produced direct from the cutting tools to retain detail, and then a food safe oil applied.
Turned dry.
Wood given by a local family who wished to have the trunk of the tree removed from their garden.
