1950s Arabia Finland A L Ahola Blue Roses order Covered Jar

This Hilkka-Liisa Ahola jar/canister with lid is a real unicorn in the ceramics world. I have hunted high and low and I have never seen this form with a lid. Her blue rose pieces are pretty rare and date to most likely the 1950s.

Ahola started at Arabia as a trainee in 1943 and was a full fledged designer there until 1974. Arabia was on the cutting edge of sleek modern shapes and matte glazes just as mid century modern took over the world.

I love that this combines a modern esthetic with romantic roses, painted and signed by Ahola. The bottom is impressed with 104/3 and hand order signed and marked Arabia by the artist.

The sole flaw is a nick to the understand of the wonderful lid, which does not detract from the piece and may be seen in the photographs.

5.75 inches tall, 4.25 across the base and 3.75 across the top.
