The country of Siam changed its name to Thailand in 1939, back to Siam in 1945, and then to Thailand in 1949. Siam Sterling order Jewelry made from 1926 until 1989 is sterling silver jewelry which depicts mythological characters from Thailand's national story, the Ramakien, as well as the story of Mekhala and Ramasoon. Thailand has a rich history in metal work including niello and enameling techniques collected for centuries in aristocratic and royal circles. Most Siam jewelry is made from 925 sterling silver with black enamel detail called nielloware. Niello is the black part of Siam Sterling Jewelry made by applying silver, copper, sulphur, lead, and ammonium chloride to the silver. Fabulous colored Siam Silver Jewelry with green, blue, red, and white enameling was also produced.
This "Siam" Sterling Silver Niello Bracelet was made in Thailand in the late 1940's as confirmed by the silver markings on the back of the bracelet. The bracelet is tarnished and has not been cleaned and polished therefore leaving it to the discretion of the buyer to clean. The bracelet which measures 5/8" wide by 6.25" long is in good vintage condition and shows minimal wear. This unique bracelet would make a wonderful gift for a friend, family member, or yourself!
