L5R elemental rings!
I created elemental designs inspired among other things by Mt. Fuji and The Great Wave off Kanagawa. I cut those designs from 1/16" thick sheets of maple veneer, and contrasting outer rings from 1/16" walnut veneer. All these layers, as well as the rings I cut from the dyed background veneers, have 5 perimeter holes which I used to precisely position the five layers with metal pins during assembly. I used a high precision glue applicator to apply Titebond Translucent glue to the relevant areas of veneers, applied clips to create a tight glue bond, then removed the positioning pins. order
Rings measure approximately 42mm in diameter by 6.25mm thick. They are made of walnut, maple, cherry, and mahogany woods. Color backgrounds are dyed maple veneer sealed with blonde natural Indian shellac. Each ring is approximately 2 grams in mass.
