Linocut, also known as lino print, lino printing or linoleum order art, is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used for a relief surface. It evolved from trench art. First a design is drawn onto a piece of linoleum. Then the artist uses cutting tools to carve the design into the block. The linoleum block is inked with a roller (called a brayer), and then impressed onto paper or fabric using a press, a barren or wooden spoon.
