‘Liekki' is a series of kitchen and dining ware, elegant and stylish in their Japanese inspired simplicity and versatile in their use.
The series was designed by Ulla Procopé and produced by Arabia 1958-78.

The word “liekki” means “flame” in Finnish.
Accordingly, all 'Liekki' pieces are flame and oven proof, as well as, microwave and freezer safe.

Condition
Very good, no chips, cracks, crazing. Superficial scuff marks on the rim and lid (from storage). Graphite marks inside, although they look like scratches under the magnified view, the glaze is intact. Light scratch on the base. (see photo).

I will list more Liekki pieces in the future, as I have almost all pieces from the series.

*The Finnish ceramic artist and industrial designer Ulla Procopé Nyman (1921-68) completed her ceramic studies at the University of Art and Design, Helsinki.
From 1948, she was employed by Arabia, where she collaborated with Kaj Franck. After a few years at the throwing-wheel, due to health reasons, she was transferred to the design department of Arabia.

Her best known designs are the Model GA teapot, the fireproof series Liekki (Flame), the ND tableware service with hand- painted Valencia motif in cobalt blue, the Model S service, used with the brown monochrome Ruska with the Kosmos, the Anemone and the Rosmarin decoration.
Ulla Procopé died tragically at the age of 47 from work-related silicosis.
