My handcut portrait papercuts are the reason I became a papercutter and have such a passion for the process. I thoroughly enjoy creating detail in each face - whether it be human or pet - and gradually seeing that face come to life, literally from paper, is incredibly satisfying. I always hope each recipient gets as much joy out of their portrait papercut as I do in hand-cutting them.

As can be seen in the photos of each stage, I use my trusty scalpel to handcut each section a stage at a time creating the unique detail particular to order each face.

All of my papercuts are cut from a single sheet of Canson Mi-Teintes Artists' Paper (160gsm) - a quality paper chosen for its 65% rag content with a honeycomb finish and rough-grained surface (amazing to cut and hold a design). It is acid-free and offers excellent resistance to ageing and light.

I tend to use a dark backing paper for portrait papercuts as it contrasts very well with the lighter paper in which I cut into, however please feel free to select your preferred choice from the list.

I photograph every step of my designs; from pencil on paper through to framing. It is all then watermarked and uploaded to social media, for my followers and buyers to see my whole creative process is an original. It takes many hours/days designing and handcutting my original papercuts, this is what my lovely customers are paying for - I will do my best to ensure that dishonest artists do not copy them.
