This hand knit Faux Chain Mail Shirt with pointed hem is the newest addition to The Centuries Chest's collection of faux chain mail pieces. This shirt has wide elbow-length sleeves, a straight neckline, and a pointed hemline, both front and back, that hits mid-thigh. The torso shaping is straight up and down.

The faux chain mail shirt is a comfortable, light-weight, affordable alternative to steel ring chain mail for your medieval cosplay, SCA and LARP needs or for Game of Thrones, Hobbit or Lord of the Rings costumes. Vikings, Saxons, Normans and other European foot soldiers and knights of the Middle Ages, and somewhat earlier, would have also made use of similiarly styled pieces....only they would have been much heavier, smellier, harder to maintain and very expensive.

The faux chain mail shirt is made with thousands of complex stitches that closely resemble steel ring chain mail. In fact, it's been mistaken for the real thing at a distance. Up close, it's obvious your chain mail shirt is knitted yarn, and more about having fun than historical accuracy. See photos above for backyard training sessions!

Unlike other faux chain mail pieces in the shop, this shirt is available only in pewter grey at this time. Please send me a convo if you're looking for a different color.

Like the historical pieces my knitted chain mail is based on, the faux chain mail shirt is flexible, but much lighter and easier to wear. It slips on over your head, fitting nicely over your other gear. Your movements are not restricted in any way.

Unlike the real deal, you won't rattle or clink when you move (great for sneaking up on the enemy!) It's also much easier to maintain. Just throw it in the washing machine – no worries about rust! Warning: the faux chain mail shirt will offer no protection whatsoever in battle, fisticuffs, or wrestling. Please use foam weapons in mock battles!!!

Please note: the nature of the stitch I use allows a great deal of ease (or stretch), hence the broad range within each size category.
X Small: chest 20 - 26 inches (51 cm - 66 cm)
Small: chest 28 – 34 inches (71 – 86 cm)
Medium: chest 36 – 42 inches ( 91 – 106 cm) (Size shown in photographs)
Large: chest 44 – 50 inches (112 – 127 cm)
X-Large: chest 52 – 58 inches (132 – 147 cm)
XXLarge: cgest 60- 66 inches (152 - 168 cm)

Care
For best results: hand wash in warm water with a mild detergent. Rinse well. Lay flat to dry. Do not iron.
Safe to machine wash and dry ONLY if the faux chain mail piece is secured in order a laundry bag or pillowcase first. This prevents snags in the knitted fabric. Machine wash in warm or cool water with a mild detergent on a regular cycle. Keeping the faux chain mail in the bag, transfer the piece to a dryer, tumble dry on a medium heat setting. Do not iron.
