They can be cleaned with mild dish detergent and a tooth brush, rinse with cold water and dry with a cotton towel. It's ok to get them wet, in fact, for the ones with opals I recommend it. Water or mineral oil seems to moisturize the opal and when applied with a clean tooth brush the opals seem to respond by flashing more colors and irridescense.
