HISTORY OF SPUN COTTON:

Spun cotton ornaments were among the most popular German decorations at the turn of the century...making them was very much a cottage industry with families assembling figurines by hand in their homes by wrapping cotton batting tightly around a wire or cardboard frame to form shapes of humans, animals or even fruits and vegetables (a common theme of Victorian decorating.) order Faces would be hand-painted or a lithograph scrap face would be glued to the cotton batting. Human figures would be dressed in crepe paper. Each ornament had its own a personality, unlike the mass-produced feel of many Christmas ornaments available today.
