There is something so mesmerizing about the types of shells with spiral patterns! I remember reading about how the patterning in a spiral shell reveals the Fibonacci sequence, as does the shape of the universe, and the Circle of 5ths so that might have something to do with how the image of a whelk or nautilus shell can move one with it's beauty and poetry.

I cast the shell used in this bracelet in silver precious metal clay from a textured sheet designed for the use of clay. Once fired I polished it, then hand oxidized it for an antique look with a subtle hint of iridescent color in the patina. I then buffed away the surface oxidation to reveal the pattern and tumbled and hand polished it for a mellow shine. I've threaded it onto a silk ribbon in lovely shades of gray with a metallic silver edge that evokes a storm at sea.
