Product code: Vintage order 1959 Japanese Black Lacquer Figural Bowls w Gold Gilding Marked
This is an astounding set from Japan. It's two figural bowls in the order form of a hen and rooster but also in the style of dragons. They're meant to look like dragons, especially the rooster. When these first came out, there was more gold gilding, but it falls off over time. Otherwise these items are in top notch condition. There's no chips. There's a mark on the bottom of the rooster with a date and the best I can make out is 1959. Details; the porcelain here is bone China. It's extremely white where it's exposed which is always a good sign. It's the highest quality porcelain besides paper China which uses the same ingredients. The Black Lacquer used here is a Japanese thing; it is a Lacquer ofcourse but it's so Black, it almost absorbs color. It's beautiful and is still as glossy as ever. These were likely handmade. Definitely hand gold gilded. So suffice it to say, this is a rare set for that one collector. Note: I'm using insured shipping and having them pack this, hence the price.
