These beads are hand-painted in the traditional Chinese "Qinghua" technique. "Qinghua" literally means "blue flowers" and refers to the familiar blue and white pottery which has become emblematic of China since the 14th century.

They feature two stylized versions of the Chinese character 寿 (shòu) meaning "longevity".
