Product code: Baby Scale ~ Vintage order Scale ~ by ounces to 30 pounds ~ Columbia Family Scale ~ Vintage Baby's Room

This is a baby scale without the cradle that would have been bolted to the top to hold the baby. It has a cute glass-covered face, rimmed in nickel with a silver star in the center and 3 babies peeking out order from behind it. It weighs babies (and other things) from a few ounces to 30 pounds. The body and platform of the scale are creamy-pink painted steel and there are numerous chips in the paint. If you were to look hard, there are a couple dots of rust, but quite minor dots. The scale has an adjustment to 'zero it out' and it is relatively accurate. The apple weighs about 8 oz. on this scale and it weighs 7.8 oz. on the digital scale I use for weighing packages. It is 8" tall, the top platform is 6" x 6", the base is 8 1/2" x 6 1/4".

It is possible that this scale was manufactured by Landers, Frary & Clark of New Britain, Connecticut who patented the Columbia Family Scale in April 16th of 1907. This scale has the same overall body style as other Columbia Family scales and also has the letters 'CS' printed on the bottom. The 1940s is a likely window of manufacture, but that estimate could be off a decade in either direction. This cool blast from the past would make a fun accessory for a vintage baby's room or an interesting photography prop.
