The white glass plaque sitting in a layer of multi-colored glass order frit in this paperweight says it all; SOUVENIR of CAMBRIDGE, OHIO by ELIZABETH DEGENHART. John Degenhart , Elizabeth's husband, started the Crystal Art Glass Company in 1946 after working at the Cambridge glass company for decades. When John died in 1964 Elizabeth took over production of glass whimsies , animal figurines and also beautiful Paperweights that contained her initials or in rare cases her complete name. Elizabeth was recognized as a Master Glass Artist by the Governor of Ohio who declared a special day to "ELIZABETH DEGENHART- FIRST LADY OF GLASS DAY". She was also honored by Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Gerald Ford. Many of her glass creations are in Museums. This beautiful paperweight has a sticker under-base of the Crystal Art Glass company and measures 3" in diameter by 2 3/8" tall. Along with the multi-colored layer of glass holding the plaque, there is a white puffy cloud layer underneath. The paperweight has a tiny chip on the top right corner that could be polished out but we leave the decision to the new owner. It is an historically important paperweight that would make a fabulous gift. Buyer pays the shipping. We ship only to N. America (Canada-USA)
