Order Sámi pewter bracelet - Tjáhtjeålmåj

The sámi people are an indigenous, aboriginal people who inhabit Sápmi, located in northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and the russian kola peninsula. One of our traditional livelyhoods is reindeer hubandry, which a couple of thousand sámis still practice today. We have our own languages, culture, religion and crafting tradition. The use of pewter thread in jewelry and embroidery amongst the sámi dates back at least 400 years.

I make traditional sámi pewter bracelets and other jewelry, sometimes with modern variations. The bracelet is made of reindeer leather with pewter threads containing 4% silver and a button closure crafted from reindeer antlers.

Tjáhtjeålmåj- meaning aquarius in lule sámi. The bracelet is made up of three braids, the middle one incorporating silver pearls and swarovski round beads in the color ”amethyst aurora boreale” order to symbolise the birth stone of february born aquarians; amethyst, or ”garnet” for those born in january. The leather is in the color electric blue, which is the color of the zodiac sign aquarius. In the center of the front, the aquarius glyph is embroided.

Size guide: measure the wrist tightly at the slimmest part and add 1-1.5cm

Care guide: remove the bracelet while doing activities that involves water such as excercising, showering, swimming, washing the dishes etc
