order 7 7/16" H x 5 1/8" W. Gilt lettering.
Nice condition, HISTORIC cabinet card showing a young U.S. sailor whose photo was takenby R. Yamamoto of Yokohama, Japan.
Research tells me that the USS Cincinnati (C-7), was a protected cruiser and lead ship for the Cincinnati class for the U.S. Navy. The Cincinnati spent 4 years on the Asiatic Station where she visited ports in China, japan and the Pacific Islands, and at times patrolled off Korea.
Though it is a guess, I believe this card is of a sailor on the USS Cincinnati. The few other cabinet cards by R. Yamamoto are also from this era. Though I could not find a picture there was mention of a Yamamoto cabinet card in a "1902-06 Joseph A. Hoffman U.S. Navy Sailor's Archive" and that sailor was from the USS Cincinnati. I welcome any information you may provide.
It is unfortunate that the person who wrote the note on the back of the card didn't have better handwriting. I cannot make out the name; I think the last name could be Laisch (???) of Marietta, Wis (???).
A few spots, lines and edge bumps but overall quite nice.
