Notes: My goal was to make an unusable pedal quite usable. I think I succeeded. In its stock form, the Boss DS-1 suffers from a harsh, undefined tone. I upgrade many circuit components to add richness, clarity and fidelity to the sound. The difference between my modified pedal and a stock unit is impressive! I call this the "Marshall in a box" due to the improved, smooth, tube-like sound. The gain structure after the mod can go from a milder overdrive to all-out balls to the wall order distortion! I also add a bright LED and upgraded knobs in your choice of color. Lastly, I add a two position on / off toggle to control the "synth fuzz" option - which is capable of producing some weird and wonderful sounds when engaged. The "synth fuzz" features interacts with your gain setting - as well as your playing position on the neck. This is a fun option to experiment with - yet, can be disabled with the flick of a switch.
