An 1886 book containing biographical sketches of famous 19th century women edited by an American author, Sarah Knowles Bolton. A few of the 19 women are novelist: Harriet Beecher Stowe; author: Louisa M. Alcott; sculptor: Harriet G. Hosmer; poet: Elizabeth Barrett Browning; nurse: Florence Nightingale; novelist: "George Eliot" and artist: Rosa Bonheur. I have read that this is a first edition but am not sure of this claim. Rare find.
This 134 year old tome shows signs of wear at the top and bottom of the spine and corners. There are brown spots throughout but the they do not hinder the reading of the text. The inside front and back covers are beginning to show order signs of loosening from the spine but the book is still intact and solid. The front pages facing the title page has become separated from the spine but is still with the book.
