Owls hold a special place in my heart order. Growing up, we used to go owling in the fields and woods near my house. We would tromp out for a walk, stopping to listen for the low call of owls and to make our own low "hoot". Often we would hear an owl echo back, and move slowly toward us, the calls getting louder as one would come near. That moment that the great creature broke through the trees overhead and flew over us was always magical.
