The Chaenomeles 'Scarff's Red' - 'Scarff's Red' Flowering Quince is a dense, broad, low growing compact deciduous flowering shrub. The branches are decorated with oval to oblong shaped leaves, sparse spiny thorns and crimson red cup shape blooms in the Spring. This is one of the first burst of colors as buds begin to bloom in early spring. Soon after, new foliage emerges a red tinted shade that later emerge to a glossy, dark green in Summer. Small greenish- yellow drupes begin to appear in late Summer and can develop a red tinge once matured in Autumn.
**Allow 3'-5' when planting for growth.
**Prefers full sun for better blooms.
**Pollinators are very grateful for the early blooms and birds love the small drupes.
