This amazing, one of a kind piece was created by the artist Matthew Adams in the 1950s. It order is perfect for any collector with a taste for a unique and eclectic style.
Truly a piece of Mid-Century Modern art, the "Alaska" collection was commissioned by the State of Alaska, who contracted the artist to produce a series of Alaska-related ceramics in honor of their newly formed state.
No two pieces in this collection are identical. This Walrus resides on an asymmetrical bowl -- a favorite mid century shape! The walrus rests on the ice, gazing at a representation of the aurora borealis in the night sky. The lights in the sky perfectly frame our friend the walrus with gold paint accents in the glaze. Matthew Adams' signature is on the right edge of the bowl. This piece is numbered 099C on the back.
This bowl is meant to be displayed on a table or shelf. It is 7 1/2 inches tall, 1 1/4 inches wide, and 2 1/5 inches deep. There are no chips or cracks in the porcelain. There is light crazing in the glaze. See the photos for more details.
