I have always been intrigued by our Native American history and ways. It is so fascinating to note their love and knowledge of the land. Many of the things we enjoy in Minnesota come from our Native American culture such as harvesting maple sap into syrup, sorgum and sugar cakes, harvesting wild rice, drying seeds, picking berries, making venison jerkey and smoking fish, just to mention a few. We grew up on corn meal mush and fry bread and enjoyed PowWows in our native area. This little gal depicts what is a part of that culture in days gone by, and perhaps it is enjoyed at the gatherings even now. She wears the traditional buckskin dress with fringes and gold Conchos. A the neckline there are red beads and possibly shells for adornment. Her thick black hair is set in two braids that spill over the front of her shoulders. Her hair is further held in place by a buckskin headband with sinew cording. A single feather is tucked into the headband to one side of her head. This has been dipped in red paint on one side and is probably a turkey feather, but an eagle feather would have been the preferred piece. In her hands she holds a brown mortar and pestle. She may be grinding corn or acorns into a finer powder for cooking. The black and gold rectangular "America" foil sticker is on the front of the dress. The oval, black and gold "Josef Originals" foil sticker is on the back of the dress. The base of the figurine is signed on the bottom in black ink, "Josef Originals". A very sweet figurine to add to your collection.

Body Condition: Wonderful vintage condition. No chips of note. There is a good REPAIR TO THE FEATHER (see photos). Crazing possible but not noted. Nice color and gloss finish. Foil stickers are in great condition (see photos).
