Nishi Madam Butterfly Red Brocade Kimono Japanese Geisha 17" Doll Vintage 1960s order

A beautiful Japanese Geisha doll with the label Madam Butterfly on her stand. She wears a combination of tomato red and metallic copper silk floral brocade lined in red and ecru silk crepe, faux fur trim, and metallic gold and black checkered Obi. The faux fur has aged the most and not in great condition. In her elaborate hair, she wears a butterfly clip, a ribbon, and a metal dangly ornament and a pearl necklace. Her face is handpainted fabric. Her left eye is missing a bit of paint. Her hair is in good condition although there are some loose wispy strands. Her hands and split toe feet are also made of fabric and handsewn. She is mounted on a black lacquer stand that does show wear and does have a few nicks of the sides.

There is a paper tag glued to the stand that says:
"Madam Butterfly"
This doll comes from the famous opera "Madam Butterfly".

There is a tag on the bottom of the stand and reads:

Nishi ND Doll
Nishi & Co., LTD
Made In Japan

I purchased an entire collection of these dolls from a woman who said her husband traveled with his business and would buy these dolls as a gift for her in the 1960s through the 1980s. They were all housed in her home in a order glass front cabinet. They all show their age and few are in perfect condition as over the years they have been packed and moved and even stored for a number of years. I have grown to appreciate the beauty of these handcrafted dolls and especially love the older ones.

The dolls have no odors, some do have some dust collected in the folds of their gowns.

Measures 17" tall (43cm) and the base is 7" x 5 1/2". (17.7cm x 13.9cm)
