Handmade stoneware cup is thrown and trimmed on the potter's wheel.
The top part of the form is thrown with a little extra thickness , that
I might carve that area. When the cup is partly dried and trimmed,
I pass my carving tools through that area to get the depth I desire.
I mix my own glazes for firing in a gas kiln, to high temperatures,
with a reduction atmosphere.
The glazes that may be achieved through this method are much more
satisfying to me than alternative firing methods.
I very much enjoy the glaze effects on this cup. They make for an
interesting focus over and over again , as the cup is used ; (this is
of course entirely my opinion :-)
The 'finish' of the glaze is a satin matte. It is mid to light-weight and
comfortable to hold. (Light-weight because of it's size)
High fired stoneware is very durable and long-lived. It might be compared
to igneous rock (like granite) rather than soft easily weathered limestone.
I appreciate this quality of longevity.
Photographing glazes is a real challenge.
I try very hard to achieve the most accurate representation that I can.
I use only natural light, in a shaded area at the back of my house.
There are often places on the piece where I get a sheen from some
reflected sunlight (almost impossible to avoid) - my feeling about this
is that it is true to the nature of ceramic glazes. They do reflect light.
(especially the glossy ones!)
I believe that the way a cup feels in one's hand is a very individual
experience. It is very important to me that anyone purchasing
any piece of mine is absolutely happy with it. So I gladly accept returns.
Please do contact me about returns. See my Shipping Policies.
Also , please understand that shipping fees may be higher than
necessary, as I need to consider destinations far from me.
I will refund any shipping cost overages that may apply.
This piece may be safely placed in a dishwasher. It may also be micro
waved with moderate temperatures for warming a beverage. Over many
many years (20) of microwaving on high, it will likely become brittle.
This is true of most all ceramic ware.
