Hand Turned order Spalted Yellow Birch Spherical Trinket Box with Black Walnut Pedestal

This spherical box is turned from a piece of spalted yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis) and sits on a base made from black Walnut (Juglans nigra). The box itself features a friction fit - which means it stay together when handled, but is easily opened when desired. The seam between the two halves is decorated with a sublte groove that does not detract from the almost perfect grain match. This spherical box was turned by hand, without the aid of any mechanical jigs and features an average wall thickens of about 4 mm providing an exceptionally light feel to the box when handled. A Tung oil finish enhances the natural depth and shimmer of the wood, and has been buffed to a pleasant sheen, but still gives it a natural wood feeling. Like all wooden balls, this spherical box is almost mesmerizing to hold and handle. The order base has been turned and textured on both the top surface and its underside, providing a little extra surprise and interest when the box is picked up.
