French Oak And Marble Benitier order - Armand Calliat Medallion

An antique French benitier with a bronzed medallion on oak plinth and shallow marble holy water font.

Simply stunning in design and quality. The oak plaque is simple in style with a close grain. The marble font is veined with pink and green. Above the font is a bronzed roundel, engraved by Armand Calliat (Thomas-Joseph Armand-Calliat 1822-1901).

Dimensions: 15cm x 24.75cm x 6cm (5⅞" x 9⅝" x 2⅜")
Weight: 410g (14½oz).

The Latin phrase at the bottom of the medallion 'Ego Svm Cvstos' translates as 'I Am the Guardian'. Beautifully crafted and in good condition with only minor age-related surface wear. Fixture on reverse for wall hanging.
