The Count of Monte Cristo (Fr. Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) - an adventurous novel by Alexander Dumas (father), published in 1844. The main motive of the novel is revenge, and the main idea is that it brings neither pleasure nor happiness.

The novel tells the story of a young man, Edmond Duntes, who was unfairly accused and imprisoned in the Jaffe castle, where he spent 14 years. Dantes lucky enough to escape and find the treasure, about which another prisoner told him. With money, Dantes is looking for his offenders, who at that time already have a career and occupy a high position in society, and destroys their lives, but in the end, after the revenge he committed, remains with a waste of heart.
