Hummel figurine "Merry Wanderer" by Goebel produced between 1960-1963, now retired. This young traveler is setting out on a new adventure with a spring in his step, orange umbrella and trusty carpetbag. The bottom is stamped in blue with the stylized bee inside the wide "V" trademark, W Germany is to the side of the trademark, “Hummel” is the German word for “bumblebee.” The letter “V” is for “Verkaufsgesellschaft,” a German word meaning “sales company,” the mold number 11 2/0 is incised, the original paper title sticker is still attached. The side of the base is incised with the signature M.I. Hummel. This figurine was superbly sculpted by the world-renowned M.I. Hummel artisans, crafted of fine earthenware and hand-painted in the signature warm, muted shades preferred by Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel. Produced at the original factory in Rödental, Germany, the original and only authorized supplier of M.I. Hummel figurines in the world. First modeled in 1935 by master sculptor Arthur Möller, Merry Wanderer is one of the most iconic M.I. Hummel figurines, this figurine is a must have for any collection, it is found in more sizes and variations than any other single figurine.

History of Hummel Figurines:
People have continued to cherish M.I. Hummel figurines over many decades. The charming figurines depicting sweet children and babies warm the hearts of many collectors and fans. The success of M.I. Hummel figurines are built on a long-standing tradition of attention to detail, quality production, and faithfulness to the vision of the artist. The artist responsible for these adorable creations was Berta Hummel. Children were largely the subjects of her drawings. Religion was also important to Berta Hummel. She entered a convent where she continued to pursue her artwork and later changed her name to Maria Innocentia. Her drawings began to be published on postcards. Franz Goebel liked the drawings and made an agreement with her to produce porcelain figurines from her images. Only Goebel's company was granted the right to produce the figurines based on M.I. Hummel's drawings. The actual creation of an M.I. Hummel figurine is a laborious process. Each one is lovingly painted by hand. This is a long process, but well worth the wait. The last Hummel by Gobel was produced in 2008.

A bit about vintage...a vintage item is at least 20 years old. Sometimes items can be found that have been stored for years and have remained somewhat pristine; others have been gently used and may bear the signs of this but this patina of age can add to the item's charm. All items are described as accurately as I possibly can, any major flaws and defects will be noted in my photos which are provided to illustrate each item. Items may appear larger than they are, make sure you carefully review the dimensions listed in the product description.
