Ocean jasper is an orbicular jasper that has been mined off the coast of Madagascar. Unique among the jaspers of the world, gemstones made from this stone ,which is no longer mined, often feature interesting orbs in various colors and sizes that are often highlighted against a wide range of colors.

Ocean jasper can only be mined at low tide by boat. This stone was named for its locationas well as its resemblance to the foam of the ocean as it recedes back into the ocean,with its patterns of greens, greys, whites, cream, brown pink, and marroon.

Jasper is a member of the Chalcedony family with a hardness o 6-7. Cabochons take a high polish and are prefect for creating durable jewelry.
