Freya is a goddess of fertility, war, magic, women, childbirth, wealth and beauty. She is associated with the boar, cats, gold, jewelry, protection, witchcraft, divination, sexual and romantic love and skillful arguing to achieve her desires without ending in bloodshed unless necessary. Horses were buried with their powerful and high-status warrior owners and in some texts, horses represented Freya's wild spirit. Freya presides over the afterlife realm Folkvang. According to one Old order Norse poem, she chooses half of the warriors slain in battle to dwell there, particularly handsome ones. Her renown symbolic role as a fertility goddess is not rooted in agriculture but in lovers, marriage and childbearing. Freya, also spelled as Freyja, Freja, Fröja, or Frøya, means "lady" or “lady of the house.” She is the wife of Odr and has two beautiful daughters. She is the daughter of Njord, who lives next to the sea in his great hall Nóatún and has a twin brother Freyr. When Freya goes anywhere, she travels in a chariot pulled by cats, rides her boar Hildisvíni or uses her falcon feather cloak which allows her to fly, a cloak which Loki enjoys begging for. She also loves her necklace Brísingamen, a name that literally means a fiery or glowing necklace which was created for her by the dwarves in exchange for spending a night with each of them. In the Poetic Edda, one of Freyja's stories begins with her searching for the ancestry of her protégé, Óttar. Freyja rides on her boar Hildisvíni, who is in fact Óttar in disguise. Boars and pigs were highly sacred fertility symbols of Freyja. Freyja is also known for the art of predicting the future – prophecy – and she taught Odin this magical art. Freya is famous for her fondness of love, fertility, beauty, and fine material possessions – and, because of these predilections, she's considered to be something of the “party girl” of the Aesir. In one of the Eddic poems, for example, Loki accuses Freya of having slept with all of the gods. She's certainly a passionate seeker after pleasures and thrills, but mainly she is the archetype of the völva, a professional or semiprofessional practitioner of seidr, the most accomplished of Norse magic. It was she who first brought this art to the gods, and, by extension, to humans as well. Given her expertise in controlling and manipulating the desires, health, and prosperity of others, she's a being whose knowledge and power are almost without equal. Seidr is a form of pre-Christian Norse magic and shamanism that involved discerning the course of fate and working within its structure to bring about change, often by symbolically weaving new events into being. This power could potentially be put to any use imaginable, and examples that cover virtually the entire range of the human condition can be found in Old Norse literature. In the Viking Age, the völva was an itinerant seeress and sorceress who traveled from town to town performing commissioned acts of seidr in exchange for lodging, food, and often other forms of compensation as well. Like other northern Eurasian shamans, her social status was highly subjective and was exalted, feared, sexually desired, celebrated, and also scorned. Sometimes she is also seen as Frigg, wife of Odin, and the differences in stories and names were due to regional cultural and lingual differences across Europe, i.e from Germany verses Scandinavia, as well as modern day interpretations of Old Norse texts and artifacts.

Keep your prayer beads in good condition by only handling with dry, clean hands. Regular body oils, sweat, and lotion can build up quickly causing the stones and charms to look unnaturally matte in appearance or rust. When storing your prayer beads, wrap it in cloth or in the cloth pouch provided help to prevent scratching. Handle carefully as stones may crack if dropped from a height, especially on hard ground.
