Vintage circa 1930's Amish or Pennsylvania Dutch women's carved wood shoe stretchers, articulating original remnants of paint marked order "131", These types of items are generally outside of my specialty but they are pretty awesome so.
These types of items are generally outside of my specialty but they are pretty awesome so I'm presenting them here. Shoe stretchers or shoe trees were popular in the early and mid 20th century to keep leather shoes from shrinking up between wearing and also to hold their form. These are carved from pieces of maple a coose grain hardwood that doesn't expand or contract much. These originally order had a painted design which has worn down and is reminiscent of Pennsylvania Dutch or Amish design. They measure 9 1/2" and look to have been intended for women's shoes. The top is stamped "131" which likely a stock number.
