Order Sea Turtles in the Shallows

This 8x54 inch satin silk scarf was hand-painted using the serti / resist method combined with shibori dyeing. Look close and you'll see order blue striations like ocean waves and ocean light. These blue patterns were created by first wrapping the fabric around a pole, tying with rubber bands, and dying the exposed white silk. The turtles were painted last, on top. One end of the scarf is slightly darker with less striations, so it looks as if the sea turtles are swimming from the deep end into the shallows...perhaps coming to lay their eggs on a sandy beach!
Satin silk is a lustrous, flowing fabric.
