Two Scoops Please. 50's Ice Cream Shop with children eating ice-cream. You will enjoy imagining walking along this Victorian street as the sun is setting and the shadows are growing long.
- Stretched canvas giclée is 18" width x 14" height, same as the original oil painting to preserve the artist's intent.
- Colors: Red, blue, and gray.
Highlights of this work:
The red brick, windows and blues of the sky absorb the long shadows and images being cast from neighboring trees and items on the street life. The Victorian lamp post and children take the forefront and frame and illuminated shop, respectively. The sun is setting behind the shop, so the children are enjoying the coolness of the shade. Try peeking down the sidewalk to the right to see if you can make out any images. Although I paint with my appreciation of the impressionist period, which appears best at a slight distance, I will forever enjoy looking close up to see how those muted appearances are created.
Background of this work:
The underpainting is a brown that peeks out occasionally to add warmth and a reminder of my favorite ice cream, Mud Pie or Cappuccino Crunch. It was a lot of fun working with the children who posed for the photo I took. They kept wanting to look at my camera, so I had to ask them to eat their ice cream just as they would if I weren't there. Another interesting detail in this painting is that I painted in my white Murano in the storefront window without even realizing it until the painting was almost finished. It was parked across the street for the photo. I love the little tidbits of reflections in the glass and the hints of color where I could place them. I also love red doors and awnings.
