Japanese order Hagi Yaki Ware Gohon Shallow Summer Flat Hira Chawan Tea Bowl, Chado Chanoyu Tea Ceremony Japan Matcha Green Tea Showa Heisei Era

If you enjoy tea ceremony or just having a nice bowl of tea, this vintage Japanese chawan or tea bowl may be for you. It's a piece of Hagi yaki or Hagi ware, and it has a nice flat, summer shape, measuring about 6" across and about 2" high. The Hagi glaze is the characteristic gray with pink gohon spots as shown in the photos. This chawan is in very good condition with its original paper box, and weighs about 12 oz, unpacked.

This chawan would be a nice addition to a teaware collection, especially if you study Japanese tea ceremony, Chanoyu or Chado, under one of the San-Senke schools, or three houses of tea: Urasenke, Omotetsenke, and Mushakōjisenke.

Rikyu admired Korean teabowls. After his death, Hideyoshi and other warlords "imported" Korean ceramicists who began producing Hagi ware, which continues to this day.
