A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Lewis Stevenson Published by Charles Scribner's order NY Illustrated by Jesse Willcox Smith

A wonderful copy of a classic children's book of poetry entitled, 'A Child's Garden of Verses', by Robert Lewis Stevenson. First published in 1905 by Longmans,Green & Co. London and Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, this copy is dated on the title page, MCMXLV, 1945. There are 9 beautiful colored plate illustrations drawn by artist Jessie Willcox Smith, instead of the 12 in the 1st edition. The hardcover book is covered in black with gold gilt lettering on the spine. The cover features a color illustration of Jessie Willcox Smith. The front and back end papers feature charming illustrations of children planting and watering trees in colors of green and tan, adorable.

The overall condition of the book is good. The dust jacket, which is protected in a mylar wrap, order is in fair condition with tears, there is a small waters stain, and the flaps have been clipped. This edition was issued without the protective tissue guards between the illustrations. the book measures; 7 1/4" x 9 1/2".

A delightful combination of the poetry for children, by Scottish poet Robert Louis Stevenson and the charming drawings of Jessie Wilcox Smith in this classic version.
