A fossil plate featuring a vertebra, along with a beautiful fossilized mouth plate of a Eodiaphyodus granulosus! From the Oulad -Abdoun Basin, near Khouribga, Morocco, from the late Cretaceous (the final age of the dinosaurs, about 75 million years ago).

The bony plate that resembles a coral, was in the back of the mouth of the Eodiaphyodus, which used the plate to crush and grind down bones and shells, prior to swallowing. the condition is excellent, with no restoration.

The mouth plate is about 2.8" across, and the whole matrix plate is about 4.1". It weighs 8.9 oz.

Commercial phosphates are big business in Morocco. This was one of many chunks that were pulled out of a phosphate pile, saving it from going into a crusher.

We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA's, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. In addition, the person selling the item is often the one who writes the COA (potential conflict of interest). Finally, a COA, without a photo of the exact specimen on the COA itself, is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral. We suggest that in addition to relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.
