Pups at Play Handmade Quilt with Free Pillow Sham-- 65 X 59 inches
Being a born puppy-lover, of course I fell in love with the pre-printed panel and decided to feature the exploits of 3 adorable lab puppies kicking back at the pond in a quilt. Keying off the colors, I decided to make my quilt in late summer colors. I chose gold, green, brown, pale yellow, and a rusty red to complement the puppies at play. The backing is brown. I chose the Hattie's Choice traditional block for the patchwork. I quilted it with a big flower pattern motif that features a little star in the middle of the flower. The flowers are connected by lines that attach to circles then back to the next flower. I used a cable stitch motif for the borders. When I finished the quilt, I realized that the panel I used had 3 small pictures of the same pups in different activities that I should use to make a pillow cover. I set the panels in the pale yellow and made a fully quilted, zippered pillow sham that I will send along FREE.
Because definitions of "handmade" vary, I want to be perfectly clear about my process. I use tools! I start by pre-washing all the fabrics before using my Accuquilt order Studio 2 die cutting machine and the appropriate dies to cut get precise cutting. I piece all my patchwork on a straight stitch domestic sewing machine. When my top is finished, I mount it on my vintage wooden quilting frame along with the backing and batting and use my hand-guided, non-computerized longarm quilting machine. I bind the quilt on my sewing machine but hand sew the final step of attaching the binding to the backing.
